Kamalika Guha Thakurta Saru: Talks Role & Journey
Kamalika Guha Thakurta, widely recognized for her performances in shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mujhe Chand Chahiye, Naagin, and Vishnu Puran, is all set to appear in Zee TV’s new show Saru. In this show, she plays a negative character. In a recent exclusive interview, she opened up about her role, her journey in the industry, and her experiences. Let’s take a look at what she shared.
- What would you like to say about your role in Saru?
In Saru, I’m playing the negative character of Kamini. She is an intelligent, manipulative, and cunning woman. Her sole aim is to achieve something for her granddaughter – and she is willing to go to any lengths for it. Though Kamini is negative, her intentions aren’t entirely selfish. Her thinking is twisted, but there is depth to her character.
- You have played several positive roles in your career. How does it feel stepping into a negative shade?
For an actor, the greatest joy lies in portraying diverse characters. Every new show brings a new role, a different age, and a different objective. Kamini is a challenging character, and that’s why it’s interesting to play. I enjoy roles that push my boundaries and test my craft.
- In today’s OTT-driven era, how difficult is it to keep audiences engaged with television?
It’s very difficult. In earlier times, audiences stayed connected with a show for years. But now, especially after COVID, people have so many options. If a show doesn’t hold their interest, they quickly move on. Retaining audience loyalty has become a major challenge.
- Many shows today launch and go off-air quickly. What do you think is the reason behind this?
Absolutely! In today’s fast-paced content world, if a show doesn’t perform, the channels and producers quickly replace it. There is very little patience to give a show time to grow. This reflects a larger shift in the mindset of the entire industry ecosystem.
- After working on television for so many years, have you ever felt monotony?
Not really. Because every show has given me the opportunity to portray a new character – with a new thought process, age, and motive. These new experiences keep me excited and passionate about my profession.
- What message would you like to give your fans and audience?
I would like to tell my viewers to give television another chance. Our show Saru is not just a story – it’s filled with emotions, colors, characters, and meaningful messages. I hope you all will become a part of this new journey with us.
